Sustainability at #TOCEurope

We know sustainability is increasingly important to our attendees and exhibitors, as well as to our market as a whole. Running an event with an international audience gives us lots of opportunities to improve our impacts environmentally, socially and economically in our host cities.  We want to make our event more responsible and play a role in helping our markets improve its own sustainability through connecting people with the networks and knowledge they want to help solve the big challenges in our sector.

“We provide a global platform for the industry to share sustainability best practices – It is therefore our duty to provide the industry with sustainable events”

Paul Holloway, Event Director, TOC Team

OUR JOURNEY TO SUSTAINABILITY

At TOC Worldwide we want our events to help inspire sustainable development and to ensure we run TOC Europe in an increasingly environmentally responsible manner.

For this, we have come up with a 10 steps guide to sustainability across our events to become carbon-neutral and the most sustainable event in the industry.

1. DELIVERING GREENER CONTENT

We use our content to support the sustainability of the market and provide knowledge and insights that address some of the industries greatest challenges.

We also showcase suppliers projects of sustainability success through free content.

2. PROMOTING BETTER STANDS

We inspire our exhibitors to help us deliver a sustainable event by implementing the Better Stands programme that aims to eradicate most of the waste generated by the event. This aims to ensure the majority of our stands are recycled or reused.

3. ELIMINATING ONSITE WASTE

We not only ensure our suppliers, exhibitors and other stakeholders implement waste reduction initiatives but also we as the event organisers make sure we implement these along the organisation process by leveraging digital and using recyclable materials among others.

An example of this is that we use and reuse lanyards that are made from recycled plastic bottles.

4. CONNECTING THE DISCONNECTED

Taking into account accessibility by using technology to video link speakers into conference rooms who are unable to attend, as well as to offering on-demand content post-event for those who cannot travel, or cannot afford to come.

5. ENCOURAGING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

We bring a diverse and global culture to our events by promoting respect, dignity and equality as our core values.

6. USING RENEWABLE ENERGY

Our events are powered by renewable electricity, which is sourced either from the venue, or covered by carbon offset certificates.

7. ACHIEVING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

We embrace the UN Sustainable Development Goals as our guide to gradually changing the manners in which we develop and deliver our events.

8. ESTABLISHING SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIPS

We develop market-relevant partnerships whose sustainable values align with ours. An example of this is how we partner with organisations to support the local community including UNICEF.

9. IMPROVING THE COMMUNITIES' WELLBEING

We consider wellbeing at our events by doing business safely and ethically by implement Health & Safety measures to ensure your safety our in-person events.

We create a positive impact on our host cities, while we aim to increase our support to local charities and sustainable projects.

10. BECOMING CARBON-NEUTRAL

Our overall goal is to reduce our event’s carbon emissions to 0 and become the most sustainable event in the industry by excelling in all the above steps.

For this, we'd love to hear from you as our customer and we'd value any ideas or feedback you could share to continue improving in along this journey.

‘We expect all of our attendees to treat each other with kindness, dignity and respect at our events. This is reflected in our event code of conduct, which allows us to remove or ban a participant if they are disruptive or harmful to our community. Harassment or discrimination of any nature has never been, and never will be, tolerated at TOC events. Anyone affected by such behaviour should report to us, in confidence, without delay’
