Ms. Lamia Kerdjoudj -Belkaid is the Secretary General of FEPORT, the Federation of European Private Port Companies and Terminals since March 2014. She holds an Executive MBA from ESSEC and Mannheim Business Schools as well as Master Degrees in Shipping, Transport and Logistics as well as in English Literature and Applied Psychology.

She has a professional experience of more than 27 years during which she held different positions within the maritime and logistics sector.

Among others, she has been for more than seven year the Public Affairs manager of the French Shipowners’ Organization. Between 2009 - 2012, she has also been appointed as a senior expert and advisor in the framework of several European projects financed by different Directorates of the European Commission.

She has also worked for private companies and corporations (among others Capmarine, Budd SA, CATRAM, EGIS) and has been in charge of consulting and business development assignments for large multinational companies. She is since 15 years a lecturer in Business schools in France and Germany in the field of stakeholders’ management and multilateral negotiations.

Antonio Barbara

Antonio Barbara has over twenty years of international experience in the port and terminal industry. He held a variety of managerial roles and led terminals in Italy and Turkey. Antonio is a renowned expert in Mediterranean shipping and ports. He holds a degree in Economics/Business Administration from the University of Salerno.

Antonio joined HHLA PLT Italy as CEO in March 2021, transforming the greenfield project into the next stage of growth, including the terminal expansion. Prior to this appointment, Antonio was General Manager of the following terminals: Intermodal Terminal (IMT – Messina Group) in Genova (Italy - 2017), Yilport Gemlik (Yilport Holding) in Gemlik (Turkey – 2014), Gruppo Spinelli (GPT – Spinelli Group) in Genova (Italy – 2012). Prior to leading terminals, he built extensive experience in the fields of both finance and operations in Salerno Container Terminal (SCT), part of Contship, (Italy).

During his career, Antonio has had the opportunity to lead a wide variety of terminals at different stages of development, but always with a strong focus on multimodal development and terminal expansion projects. 

Matthijs van Doorn

Matthijs van Doorn is Vice-President Commercial at Port of Rotterdam Authority.

In this function, Matthijs is responsible for customer relations and customer development of the Port of Rotterdam.

In his previous roles he was responsible for the development of the inland of Port of Rotterdam and the Commercial Digital Portfolio. Matthijs started his career with TNT, which gives him more than 16 years of experience in logistics. Developing Port of Rotterdam into the port with the most sustainable and most efficient supply chains is what drives Matthijs. This can only be done together with our customers and stakeholders. Digital is an important enabler for that and will make our port fit for the future 

Indra Vonck

Deloitte

Indra Vonck leads the Deloitte Port Center of Excellence and is a key representative in the firm’s global Shipping and Ports network. He has 10 years of experience with consulting maritime stakeholders and port authorities in both the public and private sector. Indra has worked across the global Deloitte network in all geographies on a variety of strategic and financial port and maritime projects.  

Before joining Deloitte Indra worked for a specialized maritime department in the university of Antwerp where he also obtained a PHD in Maritime & transport economics from ITMMA and Solvay Business School Brussels. The topic of the PhD focused on resilience in Seaports, a subject still close to Indra’s hart, where he, still today, strivers for a maximum impact on increased resilience and sustainability in the wider maritime sector through all his engagements.

Over the course of his career Indra worked in multiple of the world’s leading maritime centers including a recent 2 year stay in London, and currently has his home base in Antwerp and Rotterdam. In addition to his day job, he is guest lecturer at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and tenured professor at the university of Brussels on European Integration.  

Peter Sand

Peter Sand joined Xeneta in 2021, as the Chief Analyst. Heading a team that delivers expert insights on container shipping and air cargo industries - from a logistics perspective. Focus on the essential drivers, demand and supply - an obviously the freight rates that impacts us all.

Sand joined Xeneta after over a decade at BIMCO, where he was responsible for analysing commercial markets based on the global economic situation and its influence on trade. Prior to Sand’s Chief Shipping Analyst role at BIMCO, he worked with D/S NORDEN, a Danish shipping company operating in the dry cargo and tanker segments worldwide, as a Senior Analyst.

Throughout his career, Sand has been regarded for his widely read articles and industry insights, as well as his regular appearances on global news networks such as CNN, BBC, CNBC and Bloomberg. He holds a Master’s in Economics from the University of Copenhagen.

Johan-Paul Verschuure

Johan-Paul Verschuure is a senior port & transport economist at Rebel based in Rotterdam. His primary expertise lies in market and strategy studies in the port and shipping sector, due diligence for port transactions and in the field of the energy transition/decarbonisation of the maritime industry.

He combines a technical background as a port engineer with financial economic expertise for developing business cases from a combined commercial, technical and financial point of view. The strong and important link between technical-operational, commercial and financial is central in the (financial) analyses he carries out as a consultant.

He has been with Rebel over two years where he is a director and partner. Before joining Rebel he worked as Technical Director at WSP in the Maritime group in London, United Kingdom. Prior to this position, he gained experience with Ocean Shipping Consultants/Royal HaskoningDHV for over 8 years. Combined he worked for almost 15 years exclusively on business cases in the port and shipping globally.

He has worked across sectors in the port domain with a focus on the container shipping industry. Clients include  most major global terminal operators, major infrastructure funds investing in port assets as well as some of world’s leading port authorities. He has worked on projects in especially North West Europe, Black Sea, North America, South America, South-East Asia and Africa. 

Alex Duca

Joining APM Terminals in 2002, he held various positions of increasing responsibility, in Romania, Oman, Jordan; Vietnam, The Netherlands, United States, and Denmark focusing on driving business value by integrating functional efficiency, operations technology solutions and container handling equipment within complex port environments.

In the current role as Director, Head of Automation Engineering, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Alex is driving organization transformation and modernization of port, transport and logistics operations through modular solutions and global business initiatives.

Eleanor Hadland

Eleanor Hadland heads up Drewry’s ports and terminals research arm, including responsibility for the company’s Annual Review of Global Container Operators and quarterly Ports & Terminals Insight reports.

She has over 25-years’ experience in the port sector, having worked initially for the UK’s largest port operator Associated British Ports.

She has subsequently held senior level consultancy roles with Drewry, Moffatt & Nichol, BMT and AECOM, where she has supported a wide range of clients in respect of port development and expansion and M&A transactions. 

Dennis Koegeboehn

Dennis Koegeboehn is a Partner at HPC, bringing 20 years of industry experience in the ports sector. He has been advising operators and the public sector alike on large scale integrated port development projects in all stages of port projects.

Specific focus areas include capacity extension and technological advancement, especially automation and digitalisation, optimisation, simulation and supply chain optimisation projects. Focussing on commercialisation, Dennis brings a rich experience in business case development from a range of due diligence, M&A and privatisations projects.

Following three years with terminal operator HHLA, he joined HPC in 2005, where he has further developed terminal planning and optimisation capabilities. With a core focus on port planning, design, development, implementation and improvement, Dennis is responsible for HPC’s business in the APAC region.

Dr. Jan Hoffmann

Jan joined UNCTAD in 2003 and became Chief of the organization’s Trade Logistics Branch in 2016. The Branch is implementing multilateral transport and trade facilitation capacity building programmes, as well as regional and national projects in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Jan is co-author and coordinator of the annual UNCTAD Review of Maritime Transport, created and co-edits the quarterly UNCTAD Transport and Trade Facilitation Newsletter, and initiated the UNCTAD Maritime Country Profiles and the quarterly Liner Shipping Connectivity Index.

Previously, Jan spent six years with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago de Chile, and two years with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London and Santiago. Prior to this, he held part time positions as assistant professor, import-export agent, seafarer, translator, and consultant. For eight years, he also worked part time for the family tramp shipping business Hoffmann Shipping, based in Horneburg, Germany, with a tweendecker registered in St. Johns, Antigua and Barbuda.

Jan has studied in Germany, United Kingdom, and Spain, and holds a doctorate degree in Economics from the University of Hamburg. His work has resulted in numerous UN and peer reviewed publications, lectures, technical missions, data bases, and electronic newsletters. Jan is member of AJSL, CPI, FFSC, IJSTL, INCU, JST, MEL, MPM, and the Propeller Club of Geneva. From 2014 to 2018, Jan was president of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME). Jan has had his hair cut in 74 countries. He has three sons and one wife.

Martin Mannion

He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Member of The Academy of Experts, member of PIANC, as well as a member of the Independent Port Consultants industry grouping.

Annika Kroon

Annika Kroon is head of the Maritime Transport and Logistics Unit in the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport in the European Commission.

The unit deals with sustainable maritime policies, maritime markets and international maritime agreements, but also with digital and sustainable intermodal freight transport and logistics.

Annika is an economist with Master’s degrees in Cybernetics in Economy and International Finance. In her earlier assignments in the European Commission, she was involved in setting up the impact assessment framework, that the Commission uses for ex ante analysis of all its major policy proposal.
She has also dealt with the implementation of rail market liberalisation policies. 

Before joining the European Commission in 2008, she has worked as a financial and business analyst in banking and telecommunications.

Alexio Picco

With a Degree in Transport Engineering at University of Genoa, Alexio is one of the Circle founding partner in 2012. Alexio Picco has a multi-annual experience working with politicians, policy makers, regulators, academics and third parties in passengers and freight transport innovation.

He is also currently the Director of the Connecting EU Business Unit, which supports and develops the business of public bodies and private companies through innovation projects and funding opportunities. 

Alexio Picco has a 25 years’ experience working with politicians, policy makers, regulators, academics and third parties in passengers and freight transport innovation using national and European funding.

22 years’ experience in creating, building and leading major initiatives within complex public and private organizations with a track record of successful cross-functional business development processes and large scale international consortia including EU and local institutions, EU/national/local policy-makers, industry players and a large variety of other stakeholders including non-profit groups.

15 years’ experience in supporting the European Commission in the evaluation of innovative projects, assessing their impacts in respect of the EU policies specifically in the domain of urban mobility and public transport.

Hans Rook

Chairman 

International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA)

Hans works in the transport and logistics sea trade sector for 51 years.
He started his career at a shipping agency and having gaining experience in all facets of import and export services, he was appointed to set up the ICT function in the company. He is also one of the gurus on EDI standardization – he joined UN working groups to establish UN/CEFACT EDIFACT messages for the global sea trade industry. Having been general manager ICT within the shipping agency, Hans was asked to join the Rotterdam group of experts for the set-up of the Port Community System in the Port of Rotterdam. Since then he has been working for Portbase Rotterdam until January 2019 when he retired.

The International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA) has chalked up some remarkable achievements in the past years. Membership has increased to the point where IPCSA is now active and has members in every continent; IPCSA has continued to increase its influence at the highest levels; and IPCSA membership has expanded beyond port and cargo community systems to include Single Window operators.
All of this has been achieved under the dynamic chairmanship of Hans Rook, whose knowledge and expertise of community systems, IT and port logistics, built up over a 50-year career, is unrivalled.

Hans is quite simply one of the visionaries in the development of new services to support the simplification of trade. Hans, retired from Portbase Rotterdam as per 01-01-2019 were he was senior adviser at Portbase, the Port Community System in The Netherlands.

Ricardo Arten

CEO 

Brasil Terminal Portuario (BTP)

Ricardo Arten Gorzelak, Chief Executive Officer of Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP), has more than 25 years of experience in the port sector.

He was appointed CEO of BTP in May, 2019, and in his current position for this company – a joint venture between Terminal Investment Limited (TiL)and APM Terminals – Ricardo has been successfully leading one of the largest port container terminals of South America.

He is also an active board member of ABRATEC – Brazilian Association of Container Terminals and associate member of Infrastructure Department (DEINFRA) of Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP).

Ricardo Arten previously worked in various leadership positions across port sector, including terminals of Santos, Rio de Janeiro and Itajaí, where he worked for several years had becoming a fundamental enabler of growth for APM Terminals Brazil.

Ricardo is a native of Brazil, married with Eliane and has two sons. He attained a naval engineer degree from the University of São Paulo (USP) and he also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In addition, he has attended several executive leadership programs in Brazil and abroad. 

Jeroen Kats

Jeroen Kats holds a MSc degree in Operations Research and is Project Director Design and Simulation Services at TBA, a simulation consultancy company for the port, terminal and warehousing market.

His department focuses on supporting ports and terminal operators all over the world concerning terminal design and improvement process challenges.

By means of advanced dynamic tooling such as simulation and emulation, container terminals can make data-driven decisions and have a better grasp of the uncertainties.

In a span of over 15 years, he has been involved in various large, international projects ranging from process improvement, TOS go live support, terminal extensions and conversions, redesign of handling systems, to the design of greenfield terminals. 

Jorrit Harmsen

Global Senior Business Developer Green Maritime Performance

Jorrit Harmsen MSc is a senior researcher sustainable shipping at the Dutch research institute TNO.

He focusses on technical, operational and logistics measures to enhance the environmental performance of waterborne transport and port operations.

As part of TNO’s sustainable shipping program, he is responsible for the strategic development of TNO's research portfolio. This combines research covering operational and bunkering safety, powertrain development, aftertreatment concepts, and development of sustainable fuels and accompanying scenarios.

Furthermore, Jorrit is vice-chair of the IRAG Port & Logistics of the European WATERBORNE Technology Platform.

Douwe van der Stroom

Douwe van der Stroom works as Programme Manager on the ‘twin transition’ at the Port of Rotterdam.

This concerns the area of work in which the energy transition intertwines with the digital transformation.

Within the largest port of Europe there is strong potential for digitization to accelerate the decarbonization of industry and transport.
Current initiatives include the developments in smart energy systems, raw materials passports, predictive maintenance among others.

Elisabeth Munck

Since 2016 she leads sustainability in Supply Chain Operations, based in Switzerland, with a strong focus on reaching ambitious climate targets for global transportation and logistics.

Ashley Woods

Head of Global Environmental Improvement 

A.P. Moller - Maersk 

Spending his primary school years in Australia and part of which living on a remote mine where he was schooled via CB radio, Ashley developed a fascination with the natural environmental and resources.

 Ashley completed a B.Sc and M.Sc at the University of Durham in Geosciences.  Ashley’s early career as an Environmental Consultant focused on Water Resource Management, Flood Risk and later Water Sensitive Urban Design. During this period Ashley completed an M.Res (Eng) in Urban Sustainability and Resilience at University College London, focusing on the use of mathematical decision theory for sustainable water supply capacity expansion planning.

 Moving to the Oil and Gas industry, Ashley worked as an Environmental and Social Advisor for BP on major Upstream projects in Angola and then for on- and off-shore operations in the North Sea. Following that Ashley became an Global Upstream Environmental Modelling Advisor specializing in Effluent Treatment, Oil Spill Contingency, and Air Impact assessment.

 Ashley currently holds the role of Head of Global Environmental Improvement and Capital Investments HSSE at Maersk. In this role Ashley is co-developing the new Environment and Ecosystems element of Maersk’s updated Global ESG Strategy, and is responsible for implementation across APM Terminals and Maersk Landside Logistics. The Environment and Ecosystems strategy and its implementation in Maersk’s landside businesses is designed to leverage cross-function and multi-disciplinary expertise to achieve better environmental outcomes. And then using multiplying these benefits through collaborations and partnerships with communities, stakeholders, and customers.

 Ashley is Chartered Scientist and a Fellow of the Geological Society of London.

Hassan Abkari

Nowadays, he is Managing Director of Tanger Med Port Authority, and member of the board of the Special Agency Tanger Med.

Hassan Abkari is holder of a BSC in Applied Mathematics followed by a Master in Maritime Administration and ended up with a MBA from the EDHEC (France).

Hassan's first experience was in several project dredgingworks for port construction, followed by management position in the Moroccan shipping company Comanav.

Hassan is married and father of 3 children.

Ahila Karan

Ahila Karan is a Decarbonisation Analyst for the Lloyd’s Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub.
She has more than 7 years' experience covering global energy markets, with a particular focus on transportation fuels and the cleaner fuels transition.

Ahila holds a Masters from the University College London in Economics, previously working at oil trading company Trafigura as the Global Distillates Analyst where she was also involved in producing analysis on shipping industry trends and fleet analysis.

Prior to this, Ahila worked as a journalist at S&P Global, reporting on major energy news and the latest environmental policy changes affecting the shipping and road fuels industries.

Andreas Slotte

Andreas Slotte is the Head of Sustainable Development at Port of Helsinki Ltd, where he is responsible for the implementation of the port’s sustainable development strategy and activities.

Noteworthy items on the agenda are the implementation of the port’s carbon neutrality program, the expansion and adaption of used sustainability reporting metrics, as well as further development of the port’s environmental incentive program for vessels.

Andreas is a member of the European Seaport Organization’s SD-committee as well as the steering group of Carbon Neutral Helsinki 2030. Andreas is also in charge of the port’s LNG accreditation process,

Joining Port of Helsinki in 2013, Andreas worked in operations before assuming his current role. Andreas has an MBA from Aalto University, Helsinki, and is also a Master Mariner.

Christopher Stanik

Head of Maritime Applications

Dr. Christopher Stanik is Head of Maritime Applications within the department for Hydrogen, Alternative Fuels and Fuel Cells at NOW.
He coordinates several funding programmes for alternative fuels and energy conversion systems in martitime applications.

Mr. Stanik is holding a master’s degree in industrial engineering as well as a PhD in naval architecture and ocean engineering.

After working in strategy development for DB Schenker he worked as project manager for several R&D projects in shipbuilding and shipping industry with focus on offshore wind and maritime energy systems at Berlin Institute of Technology between 2011 and 2016. Between 2017 and 2021 he has been working as Programme Manager for the Mobility and Fuels Strategy of the German Government and as Project Manager for Gas-Fueled Ships at NOW.
Since 2021 Mr. Stanik is representing cross-technology maritime affairs at NOW as Head of Maritime Applications.

Berit Hinnemann

Head of Decarbonisation Business Development

A.P. Moller - Maersk

Berit Hinnemann currently works as the Head of Decarbonisation Business Development for Maersk, where she and her team develop the supply of the green fuels for Maersk’s decarbonization plans, especially the supply of green methanol for the announced container vessels going into operation from 2023 onwards.

Berit Hinnemann graduated with an M.Sc. in Physics from the University Duisburg-Essen in 2000 and with a Ph.D. in Physics (catalysis) from the Technical Denmark in 2004.

After postdoctoral positions in academic research at the Technical University of Denmark and at Princeton University, she joined Haldor Topsoe in 2006. She worked for Haldor Topsoe from 2006-2020 in roles in research and development, business development, technology scouting and the last 3 years as Head of Global Intelligence in Corporate Strategy.

In April 2020, Berit joined Maersk as Senior Innovation Project Manager within Maersk’s Future Fuels program. When Maersk established a dedicated Decarbonisation team in March 2021, Berit took up her current position as Head of Decarbonisation Business Development, developing green fuel supply and driving engagement with green fuels project developers and suppliers. 

Arjen Kersing

Arjen is a core member of the Transport Travel and Logistics practice and has deep experience in the maritime sector. Over the past 20 years, he has served many clients in all ports and shipping segments and along the maritime value chain.

His recent maritime experience includes

▪  Develop a growth strategy for a shipping subsidiary of a large O&G player following the merger of 4 different entities into one shipping company. This included the reorganization and restructuring of their businesses as well as setting up growth initiatives to triple their profits.

▪  Identify cost saving opportunities and digitization improvements for a tanker shipping subsidiary of an International Oil & Gas company.

▪  Develop a performance improvement program including commercial, operational and cost improvement levers for a large dry bulk shipping company based in Asia.

▪  Conducted several due diligences on dry and liquid bulk ship owner/ operators.

Eduardo Nery Machado Filho, was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro, on January 28, 1971.

He graduated as a civil engineer at the State University of Rio de Janeiro – UERJ, in 1995. Postgraduate in Public Works Audit from the University of Brasília - UnB; he also holds a post-graduate degree in Public Budget from the Serzedelho Corrêa Institute, the Center for Training and Improvement of the Brazilian National Chamber of Deputies.

He began his professional career in the private sector working as a civil engineer in large companies, where he was responsible for construction management, especially regarding urban and road infrastructure.

In 2000, Eduardo Nery began his career in Public Administration as Federal Auditor of External Control of the Federal Court of Accounts– TCU.

In the Court of Accounts, he played a leadership role in several technical units such as the Secretariat of Supervision of Construction Works, as well as integrated the technical advisory team for the ministers of the house. He also provided technical advice to Parliamentary Committees of Inquiry - CPIs, installed within the framework of the Brazilian National Congress.

Currently, Eduardo Nery serves as Director General of the Brazilian National Waterway Transportations Agency – ANTAQ. For this function, he was indicated by the Presidency on October 13, 2020, and had his nomination confirmed by the Brazilian Senate on October 20, 2020, to a term expiring on February 18, 2025.

He was Editor of Cargo Systems International, part of the organisation that founded TOC in the 1970s, from 1990 to 1994, when he became a co-founder and Editorial Director of a new and independent publication, WorldCargo News.  
Since 2010 he has worked as an independent editorial consultant and journalist.

In the past few years he has written extensively on emissions limits for off-road mobile machinery and on the introduction of hybrid drives, battery-electric drives and emerging hybrid drives based on fuel cells, as well as direct hydrogen injection instead of diesel or HVO.

Coming from the automotive sector, Mr. Simon brings the view from an industry that is already undergoing drastic transformation in terms of digitalisation, sustainability and automation, for decades.

Christopher Cavanagh has been working in the intermodal rail sector for nearly two decades with Freightliner Limited covering a variety of operational and commercial roles, before moving into rail terminal transformation projects.

Christopher was a senior member of the team when Freightliner adopted the Spinnaker suite of Terminal Operating Systems from Tideworks Technology, before becoming the product owner and working with Tideworks directly to continue to enhance the product for mutual benefit.
Christopher then became a Program Lead when Freightliner, now owned by Genesee & Wyoming, entered into a multi-million pound Business Transformation Project that had technology at its heart.
Christopher played a critical role in this project, leading his team in specifying, designing and rolling out the integrated solution for Freightliner/G&W with Tideworks Intermodal PRO TOS, Advent’s E-Modal VBS Booking System and CAMCO’s Automated Gate Solution.

For the TOC, Jeroen van Meel will give a short introduction on the developments on the City Terminal, the Rotterdam Short Sea hub which has been redeveloped by the Port of Rotterdam.
Special attention will be paid to the entrance and gate systems of the City, which are multi-user and give entrance to various container enterprises via a state of the art gate in the most efficient way. In this way, major congestion in this crowded area is prevented. The gate has been developed with various companies (Kramer, MRS, RST) ass well as the supplier Certus.

The Port of Rotterdam was the main developer here. Mister van Meel has been involved in this project as area/business developer as well as project manager and intermediar between users and (ICT) technique.
After renovation, the gate was able to handle about 2.000 to 4.000 trucks a day. Lessons learned will be shared.

Lucas holds a Bachelor of Mechatronics and a Master of Project Management from the University of Sydney. For the past 15 years he has been developing automated container handling products and managing product development projects and customer deliveries.

He has a broad experience with terminal equipment ranging from hands-on fault finding with live equipment to managing large and complex product development projects.  His most recent experiences include development of navigation systems, safety positioning, automatic truck handling and automatic rail handling solutions for both Kalmar AutoStrads and Automatic Stacking Cranes.

Lucas is currently employed with Kalmar as a Product Manager for the KalmarOne automation product family. His work is spread across Product Roadmapping and Development, R&D and product delivery. He has leveraged his broad range of skills and experience in order to find practical solutions to complex problems and has a track record of generating value for customers. 

When not working, Lucas enjoys spending time with his family in the Southern Highlands in New South Wales, Australia.
