Sustainability – it’s at the heart of everything we do

At TOC Worldwide we aim to support, enable and showcase sustainable development within the global container supply chain.  Working together, we believe this industry can look forward to a brighter, greener and more profitable future.

Our #TOCsustainabilty vision

We know that sustainability is increasingly important to our attendees and exhibitors, as well as to our market as a whole.  Running events with an international audience gives us lots of opportunities to improve our impacts environmentally, socially and economically within our host cities.  We want to therefore make our events more responsible and play a vital role in helping the regional markets we serve improve their own sustainability, through connecting people with the networks and knowledge required to solve the biggest challenges within our sector.

TOC Worldwide is also committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
, and these underpin all our efforts to become fully carbon-neutral and home to the industry’s most sustainable events by 2030.

Championing sustainability from all angles

Here’s a breakdown of how we’re embedding sustainability into everything we do.  We’re:

Delivering greener content – 40% of our programmes cover sustainability issues, with October’s TOC Americas event having Day 2 dedicated as its ‘Sustainability Day’

Offering ‘Better stands’ to our exhibitors – which can reduce post-event waste by up to 80%

Reducing food waste – by not over-ordering, and including vegan food choices

Replacing printed event guides and conference documents with digital versions

-  Ensuring all lighting is fully LED

- Reusing and recycling attendee badges and event signage

Fully accessible – with our events all wheelchair friendly

Our aims don’t stop there…

We’re next aiming to:

Plant a ‘TOC forest’ – we’re delighted to announce that we are now partnering with Ecologi to help fight the climate crisis.  We promise to plant one tree for every event registrant that completes their registration via their social media profile, and invites their network to join them

-‘Connect the disconnected’ – by offering free show content to university students, and filming conference sessions to bring vital industry insights to those that cannot travel

Establish sustainable partnerships – we’re working closely with all of our suppliers and partners to maximise our aim of becoming a net zero carbon event series

Improve community wellbeing – by working with charities in the geographical regions our events serve – Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America

- Continue to deliver first-class case studies and insights to our attendees from speakers across the supply chain – with IKEA’s Global Sustainability Manager Elizabet Munck recently speaking remotely at TOC Europe about the company’s plans to grow its business whilst aiming to achieve carbon positivity (See image to right)

Bring you our ‘Port Endeavor’ game – at TOC Americas in October we will be presenting for the first time a chance for attendees to role play a feature game promoting the adoption of the UN’s SDGs within port communities, presented by the International Association of Ports & Harbors (IAPH)

Can You Help Us Become Even More Sustainable?

Our customers and partners are clearly telling us that sustainability – whether social, economic or environmental, is something that is no longer ‘A nice to have’ but a necessary part of any event.  We want to make sure we’re meeting those expectations and we believe that being sustainable is the right thing to do.

We also recognise that it’s not just about the way we produce our events and products but recognizing that we have a role to play in providing a space to work in partnership together with our markets to inspire the sustainable development of the industries we serve.

This is an ongoing process for us and we’re looking for ideas of how we can improve.

Want to join us on our sustainability journey?  If you have ideas as to how we can improve at TOC we’d love to hear from you – either simply leave your ideas on our online pin board here or contact our Sustainability Lead – [email protected].  Alternatively, why not get involved with us as a sustainability partner, and boost your sustainability credentials to the market?  For more information contact:
