EXHIBITOR Spotlight: DP World

Please tell us a little about your company and what you will be showcasing at TOC Europe 2024
As a leading provider of smart logistics solutions, DP World’s global network of ports and terminals and marine and logistics services allows goods to travel seamlessly and securely around the world. Given the recent supply chain disruptions, it is eager to showcase its expertise and creative trade solutions at this year’s event, from intelligent delivery systems like CARGOES and SeaRates to highbay storage systems like BoxBay.

Who are you hoping to meet?
DP World is eager to meet with its industry counterparts to discuss how it can collaborate to make the movement of goods through ports and terminals more sustainable and efficient, as well as help deliver economic prosperity and opportunity to the communities it serves.

Why is the European market so important to you?
Europe is strategically vital to DP World, so it has built trade infrastructure and services to meet its customers’ cargo needs. Its extensive European network starts from two UK ports in the north-west, which connect directly to the largest coastal trading hubs in mainland Europe, and continues through an ever-expanding inland network, deep into southeast Europe to the Black and Caspian Seas. Its network of strategically situated ports, maritime terminals, industrial parks, inland cargo depots and specialist facilities provides its customers with unrivalled geographic range, more transportation options and a higher number of connections.

What are your plans, goals and ambitions for the rest of 2024 and beyond?
Global customer needs are changing rapidly, with 41% of companies surveyed for 2024’s Trade in Transition Report saying digital adoption in supply chains will accelerate this year. This is why DP World is investing early in the right digital technologies. It recently launched its global freight forwarding offering, and digital solutions were at its heart. Its freight forwarding services are all available through a single digital window, which is supported by an integrated Global Services Centre that centralises back-end procedures and employs over 500 IT specialists. This innovative digital ecosystem allows customers to trace their goods in real time as well as manage their cargo journey all in one place. Sustainability is also no longer optional in supply chain management. DP World is spearheading crosssector collaboration through global partnerships. This includes creating a global coalition to reduce the industry’s environmental impact (‘Join The Move EOXWHUEITBLLCIOTOOOMRKE SPOTLIGHT At this year’s TOC Europe, over 200 sponsors and exhibitors will gather to showcase the latest port operations equipment and technology solutions. Could you provide an overview of your company’s current sustainability initiatives related to ports and terminals?
DP World has a clear roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 across its entire operation, with a near-term target of 42% reduction of its carbon footprint by 2030. Its ports and terminals empower and support its customers to make sustainable choices to reduce their supply chains’ environmental and social impact – connecting its assets and experts to help its customers meet their sustainability goals. This includes building the first all-electric birth in the UK at London Gateway in 2024 and a 119,000 sq ft green warehouse at London Gateway’s port-centric Logistics Park. It is making strong progress towards its goal of fully electrifying port and terminal equipment and 100% renewable electricity supply by 2050. DP World Antwerp currently runs entirely on renewable energy. Rotterdam World Gateway is its first CO2 neutral terminal and has committed to equip its entire quayside with shore-based power for all vessels. Southampton port is the first in the UK to use biodiesel to reduce emissions, decreasing net carbon emissions by 55%. DP World is constantly innovating to create and implement smart solutions for reducing carbon emissions in all supply chain stages. For example, The Modal Shift Programme is designed to increase the attractiveness of intermodal rail for customers from its Southampton logistics hub through carefully considered financial incentives. From September to February the share of freight units being moved by rail instead of road at DP World Southampton has increased by two-thirds. DP World is also collaborating with partners across the globe to maintain marine ecosystems. Alongside Istanbul University and the Marine Life Conservation Society, DP World Yarimca, Türkiye, launched the Yellow Coral Conservation Project which reverses the damage to Yellow Coral through its restoration, close monitoring techniques and replanting, permanently tracking growth of 50 coral colonies. It is also working with Natuurpunt in Antwerp to protect estuary reserves near the terminal, breathing life into the restoration and enrichment of these pristine wetlands and oceans. DP World will continue to establish collaborations to accelerate its efforts and bring about significant change in the industry. Only via coordinated sector efforts will it be able to truly mobilise all parties towards achieving net zero.

Why do you consider it important to be at TOC Europe?TOC Europe is the ideal forum for DP World to connect with its peers in the industry and discuss major issues and opportunities in the sector. As the last four years have demonstrated, ports and terminals must improve performance and resilience to protect its customers from disruptions, no matter where they originate. As conduits for global trade patterns, advancements in ports and terminals will improve the efficiency of an increasingly dynamic global supply chain.

What message do you have for the TOC community who will be in Rotterdam?
DP World is very excited for the first TOC event of the year in Rotterdam, where it will offer its perspectives on current industry issues and prospects while also showcasing its industry-leading solutions. It is looking forward to working with industry peers from all segments of terminal operations.
